I am looking at my Google Reader every day.  I can see myself using RSS feeds often for the sites that I go to the most.  This has saved me time!

Module 3 update:  Our public access computers are not compatible with many of the things people bring in on their flash drives and want to print out.  I was able to print out a resume for someone from Google Docs!

I am really happy to have discovered this tool.

Method 3

Cloud computing for me, up to this point, is limited to web based email and web searches.  I like the idea that I could work on all my projects from anywhere and am spending alot of time boning up on Google Docs.  Many of our patrons are way ahead of me on some of these things, but some are woefully behind.  I am amazed at the number of patrons we have that won't touch a computer (and still have VCRs).  I am personally dealing with alot of folks who are just older than myself (early 50s) who have to do online job applications, license recertifications, and job related testing.  They want me to do it for them and get kind of testy or downright terrified when I suggest that I can show them how.  The idea that they venture into cloud computing as well boggles their minds.  We are there for them, lol.  Just today a traveler passing through could not access his Hotmail account.  I tried it on my computer for him and the server was too busy.  He had no other way to access his email.

The issue that I am mostly concerned about is security.  I have written several books and have some in progress that I would consider storing in the cloud, so that I could work on them anywhere.   I don't want then "jacked" as my daughter would say.  This, however, is not as critical as my personal information floating around out there.  Am I just showing my ignorance?

Methods 1 and 2

I was particularly intrigued by Stephen Abram's article:  “Social Libraries.” Library Resources & Technical Services 52.2 (Apr. 2008): 19-22.  The terms complex, new world, and  parallel world experience are both scary and exciting.  I am looking forward to gaining knowledge about all aspects of this next generation of what will be common use, for the library will always be a center of access.
